Pietra Tonale - Orcheisthai
Orcheisthai is a composition conceived and written for the staff of Pietra Tonale Association. Over the course of 2016, the collective tackled various themes ranging from investigating the
relationship between music and space, up to the definition of generative processes of sound material. The piece has the pretension to act as a synthesis: to provide an anthology of improvisational processes and to fix a point of the situation about the research work done so far by the musicians. The atmospheres are charged with tension, sublimate, sometimes become rarefied; and it is in each of these places delineated by the sound, that each instrumentalist finds the necessary space to improvise; to give their contribution to the whole ensemble,
interacting by contrast or by integration. The composition remains poised between the programmatic nature of the writing, and the aleatory freedom that affects both the processes that accompany the solo, as well as the solo practice itself. The themes on which the various movements of the composition are articulated are clearly inspired by the music of Alberto Ginastera; making polytonality, and its anti-tonal drifts, the stylistic feature of the entire harmonic system.
